Welcome to Thetford Singers!

We are a FRIENDLY group of amateur singers, some forty strong, men and women, who perform a very wide range of choral music, from well-loved classical composers and early church music through to more modern composers and light music, such as Gilbert and Sullivan and Cole Porter.  Thetford Singers are encouraged in rehearsals by our professional musical director, Christopher Wray, to improve our singing and concert craft and give performances that we can be proud of and audiences enjoy.

Rehearsals take place during term time at the Methodist Church Hall in Tanner Street, Thetford, on Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm with a short coffee break and chance to chat to other members at 8.30-8.45.

AUDITIONS ARE NOT REQUIRED to join Thetford Singers and although an ability to read music is a great advantage, as we do rehearse and sing from scores, it is not compulsory.    We DO expect commitment to rehearsals, to give confident concert performance, but principally we sing for fun and enjoyment, giving 2-3 concerts a year in and around Thetford and the Breckland area.  At Christmas we have informal carol singing engagements, including a street performance for a favoured charity.

At the present time, Thetford Singers' annual subscription is £60, payable either in one go or as a £20 payment at the beginning of each term.  All music is loaned to you by the Thetford Singers free of charge.   New members are welcome to join us for 2-3 weeks before committing to paying subscriptions and becoming members.

If you don’t know what ‘voice’ you are (Soprano or Alto - women, Tenor or Bass - men) you can try singing in both sections to discover which you are most comfortable with.   We are an adult choir but will welcome the older singing teenager who comes with a parent or who has written parental permission to come to rehearsals and concerts and feels comfortable singing with adults.
